The land of the free

Before this amazing week is completely gone, I wanted to give a brief nod to the historic event most of us watched on Tuesday afternoon.

Not being much given to schlock, I won’t gush. But I do want to share a musical tribute to the event recorded by Da G.

Girl, you’re a woman now

Another conversational snippet:

Ricky: I have a compliment to make!

Kimmie: What?

Ricky: You have bouncy boobs.

Kimmie: Yeah … ! [starts bouncing her boobs around]

She’s going to be sorry she did that in about 40 years, when her boobs are sagging around her knees. But does she listen to her mother? Nah.

At least she is being a little bit nicer to him these days. That’s usually what happens when Gina goes back to school, Kimmie is nicer to Ricky (sort of).

This is good.

(Hey, I take what I can get.)

Tell me, how long will it last?

Overheard conversational snippet:

Kimmie: Look at this! This is a medium! A medium!

[mumble]

Kimmie: See? I’m fat!

Gina: You have a bubble butt!

Kimmie: You’re a douche. I’m gonna go kill myself now.

I never seem to be able to really capture the conversations between my daughters and that’s really too bad. Listening to Gina and Kimmie talk to each other is an experience all by itself.

We won’t get a chance to be entertained like this for awhile. Gina went back to school yesterday. We left early, shortly after Mother Nature was kind enough to dump about five inches of snow on us.

I find the world is as full of idiots with SUVs and 4-wheel drive, who think those automotive weapons turn them into SuperDriver. We entertained ourselves with speculation on how many miles each of the idiots who passed us doing 80 on slippery slush would travel before ending in a ditch (or worse).

Gina, bless her heart, is an excellent driver in sucky weather. She is confident but not cocky and has a very good head on her shoulders. All in spite of the fact that, for most of the trip, she was fretting about being late.

As matters evolved, she didn’t really have to worry about that.

That did not make her happy.

As for me, after yesterday’s adventure on the roads of upstate NY, I have retreated into my usual ‘I don’t want to get behind the wheel of a car until May’ mode.

Not gonna happen, of course. But that never stops me from wishing.
