Working day to day for little money, just tips for pay
by Me on Oct.10, 2008, under Doing business
It’s been awhile, eh?
I just did something that I consider to be rather amazing. I filled out an online application to get a job at the local Sears-owned K-mart. I even have an interview scheduled for Saturday.
The reason why I would take such an outrageous step is simple and should be obvious. I need the money.
No, I haven’t shut down my business. On the contrary, that’s part of the problem. See, I’m making a little money with my business, but not much. I could make a lot more money if I were able to take what I’m making and re-invest it in the business.
But I find I can’t do that because it always seems as though the household finances are running short. I just don’t have it in me to sit on my company’s cash when the cupboards are bare. And, right now, for a variety of reasons that I’m not going to get into, the spouse’s earnings just aren’t getting it done.
Hence this rather extreme step.
Actually, it’s not all that extreme. People do it all the time. I’ve been out of the workforce for about a thousand years so, in many ways, this will be quite an adventure. But there are things that I want to do for my business and, of course, it is of paramount importance that we dig our way out of the hole that the Flood of 2006 put us into (really, you’d be amazed at how long it can take to recover from a disaster, insurance or no insurance). I need to do something about all this … simply because nobody else will.
Of course, the first spouse will hear about this is when he reads this blog post. I wonder what he’ll say? Perhaps more to the point, I wonder what he’ll really think but not tell me?
