Honey, it’s cold outside

By Me | January 22, 2008

Gina may already be counting the days until she comes back home again but I’m thinking I’d like to be where she is right now.

At least she’s warm.

We seem to be having trouble keeping the house heated. Most of our storm windows were destroyed in the flood and, because this is an old house with weird-sized windows, we haven’t been able to replace them without going the custom-made (read: ruinously expensive) route.

The new furnace works on a dual thermostat system where the blower won’t kick on until the firebox reaches a certain temperature, so if the wood isn’t burning hot enough or the fire dies down too much, the heat isn’t flowing. Add to that the extra energy it take to warm up the frigid air flowing into the system from outside.

All the heat that is in the house is upstairs. All the offices are downstairs.

It’s too cold to work. In fact, it’s too cold to do much of anything except ponder how cold you are.

At this point, I’m telling myself that this, too, shall pass. That and I’m going to go take a nice hot shower — most effective and fastest way to warm up the bod and thaw the fingers …
