I can’t slow down
By Me | January 16, 2008
News flash: today, the Joint Economy Committee held a hearing to try to figure out what Congress and the President should do to either head off a recession or to have timely economic policy measures in place to mitigate its effects if its too late to head it off altogether.
One of the things they were talking about doing was to put into place a bit of federal spending on infrastructure repair. Not any brand spanking new public works projects but just fixing what’s already here.
We wouldn’t want any rush hour bridge collapses, would we?
Of course, I don’t fully understand why we have to wait until we’re looking for some kind of economic stimulus before we decide to fix the bridges you and I walk, bike and drive over and under on a regular basis. Isn’t this stuff we’re supposed to be doing anyway?
As for specifics, I have an idea that would be wonderful for the area in which I live, although I’d question its stimulative effects.
If we’re going to be thinking about infrastructure, how about investing in snow plows that don’t gouge craters in the roads and highways?
Just think of all the money you’d save every spring when nobody has to go out and fill all those holes!
Yeah, I know. In the current political climate, nobody cares about saving money anymore. I, on the other hand, do care about saving money. I especially care about saving the money it will cost me if I lose a wheel or break an axle trying to navigate my way through said craters at 70 mph.
I’m sorry … I do try not to be unreasonable …
