Wanna take you higher …

By Me | April 14, 2006

Okay, we’re having another Gina week here in the Baker household.

On Tuesday, I took her with me to the Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (WISE) Symposium in Syracuse. She spent a few hours at the do with me before taking off for a tour of Syracuse University. And, while she was there, she got inspired.

Of course, much of what she learned from Anson Dorrance’s speech were things that Gino and I have been telling her for years. Such is the way of things with children and parents. Personally, I’m not inclined to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Then, in today’s mail (and today’s big news), she got a letter that said, “Gee, thanks for that gorgeous picture! We’re so impressed that we’re going to invite you to compete in the MISS TEEN NEW YORK USA pagant. Imagine, you might get to represent New York in the Miss Teen USA competition … ”

After Gina spent about 45 minutes bouncing off the walls and screaming (I gather she was a little excited), we got the package away from her long enough to find out that this is going to cost money … $999, to be exact.

So, today, she’s going to start knocking on doors looking for sponsors. She’s got a lot of energy when she really wants something.
