Drowning

By Me | August 13, 2005

… in paperwork. The school year is about to begin.

Yes, I realize that in many parts of the country the kids are already back in school. We’re old fashioned here in New York. School here still doesn’t start until after Labor Day.

Today, the mail man brought me two envelops of stuff from the elementary school. School lunch information and applications for reduced fee lunch, in case I need that. Newsletter with end-of-summer musings from a philosophical principle, bus info, pick up/drop off info, etc.

Sometimes, in between school years, I forget. But today, as I went through all this mission critical stuff and read about still more stuff that the school will be sending home, I remembered that I was going to have to batten down the hatches.

Unless I prepare for this stuff, I’m going to be buried in all the pieces of paper the school sends home. Just as if there’s not enough paper lying around on my desk.

Evidently, somebody with a warped sense of humor has decided that parents need to have homework to do, too.
